The National Board of Medical Examiners® (NBME®) is committed to protecting your privacy and to maintaining the integrity and privacy of personal information that NBME collects on the Assessment of Professional Behaviors website (the “Website”). The following Privacy Policy (“Policy”) explains our information collection and dissemination practices in connection with the Website. Please review the Policy and feel free to contact us if you have any questions. By using this Website, you agree to be bound by this Policy. If we change our Policy, we will post any changes on this webpage so that you are always aware of what information NBME collects and how NBME uses it. Please check back periodically.

•  Collection of and Consent to Use Personal Information from Website Users

NBME only collects and maintains personal information that is sent directly from an individual or institution. NBME may from time to time provide aggregate statistics about our sales, traffic patterns, and related Website information to third parties, but these statistics will not include personally identifying information.

You may visit the Website without telling us who you are and without revealing any information about yourself. However, to access certain portions of the Website, you may have to submit information such as a user ID and password, or you may have to provide personal information, including but not limited to your name, address, and e-mail address (“Personal Information”). By providing your Personal Information online, you consent to allow NBME to use that information in accordance with this Policy.

•  Security

Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be secure. As a result, while we strive to protect your Personal Information, we cannot and do not ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us, and you do so at your own risk. In the event there is a breach of the security measures used by NBME, NBME will take reasonable and appropriate actions to minimize the damage resulting from the security breach. However, NBME cannot guarantee that unauthorized individuals will not obtain access to NBME systems through illegal measures, despite our security measures.

•  Disclosure of Personal Information to Third Parties

Other than as noted in this Policy, or as NBME shall notify you in the future, NBME pledges not to sell, rent, share, offer, or otherwise disclose any Personal Information that you voluntarily provide to NBME, to any organization or individual without a legitimate interest (collectively “Third Parties”), except to the extent necessary to comply with applicable laws or valid legal processes, or to protect the rights or property of NBME.

•  Website Traffic Information

When you arrive at or leave the Website, NBME automatically receives the web address of the site you came from or are going to. NBME also collects information on which pages you visit while you are on our site, the type of browser you use, and how many times you visit our site. NBME uses this information only to try to get a better sense of visitor preferences.

•  Cookies

NBME sometimes uses "cookies" to collect anonymous information from visits to our Website to help us provide better service. NBME may use this data to analyze trends and statistics to provide better service, but it does so in ways that keep the information anonymous. A cookie is an element of data that a website can send to your browser, which then may be stored on your system. You can set your browser to notify you before you receive a cookie, giving you the chance to decide whether to accept it. You can also set your browser to turn off cookies.

The Website may contain links to other sites, operated by third parties. NBME encourages third parties, including the operators of websites it links to, to follow appropriate privacy standards and policies, but we are not responsible for the actions of those parties, the content of their websites, or any products or services they may offer.

If you use these sites, you will leave our Website. If you decide to visit any site, you do so at your own risk and it is your responsibility to take all protective measures to guard against viruses or other destructive elements. You should refer to the policies posted by other websites regarding privacy and other topics before you use them.
